“Spending is not the metric. Economic output is.”

AMD tells us supply is coming. Google tells us where the constraint is. And 5.28% Treasuries tell us the price of waiting. That changes the investment equation.

More compute without power creates idle assets. Power without utilization creates expensive infrastructure. And high rates punish both. The winner is not who builds the most capacity — it is who turns capacity into returns fastest.

Google has locked in 3.59 GW of electricity from Constellation, including 890 MW of additional nuclear generation under a 20-year agreement, enabling more than $4.3B of investment. The fundamental question: how much economic output can the next dollar of AI capex produce?

Five Signals

demand, constraint, beneficiaries, strategy, returns

  1. AMD expects a substantial increase in AI-chip supply in 2027 and is coordinating additional wafers, GPUs, CPUs and high-bandwidth memory. The compute cycle is still expanding, and every incremental accelerator pulls additional investment into the physical system. signal: The compute cycle is still expanding.

  2. Google has secured 3.59 GW from Constellation across PJM, including long-duration nuclear supply. Installed compute does not generate economic value until it can operate. Power turns capacity into utilization. signal: Installed compute creates no value until it can run.

  3. Aragon has attracted more than €60B of expected digital-infrastructure investment, while Spain plans €17B of grid investment through 2030. AI spending increasingly flows into generation, grids, electrical equipment, cooling, networking, semiconductor equipment and automation. For Europe, this may be the stronger AI trade — Europe can capture AI economics below the model layer. signal: The earnings opportunity extends well below silicon.

  4. South Korea announced a $3.5B frontier-AI programme, while DeepSeek is raising more than $11.9B inside China's integrated technology ecosystem. National advantage increasingly depends on coordinating technology, infrastructure, finance, data and industrial policy. signal: The sovereign advantage is execution across the system.

  5. The U.S. 10-year remains around 5.28%. High rates reduce tolerance for idle assets, delayed utilization and distant cash flows. ROIC must clear WACC — everything else is intermediate. signal: ROIC must clear WACC.

The Hidden Pattern

from intelligence to infrastructure

03

The Great Split

productive vs. installed

Productive Capacity

Produces utilization, cash flow and returns above the cost of capital. This is the capex that justifies itself.

Installed Capacity

Consumes capex without producing output. It sits idle, waiting for power and utilization that may arrive too late.
