“Scale now has a price.”
The Italian banking contest has moved one layer deeper.
First it was about ownership. Then equity currency. Then time. Yesterday it became about the Execution Premium. Today, we can see what execution actually costs.
A new report based on MPS correspondence with Consob says the proposed MPS–Banco BPM combination assumes roughly 5,000 voluntary early-retirement exits to generate up to €400 million of personnel savings, while antitrust remedies could require between 57 and 115 branch disposals, depending on the market-share threshold applied. The same correspondence reportedly says MPS intends to acquire from Mediobanca the entire 13.3% Generali stake before the October 29 shareholder meeting. These details have not been separately published in full by MPS; they were reported by la Repubblica from documents it says it reviewed.
